Moving to Seattle

While I have been trying to find the time to code up a spiffy new blog (and wasting far too much time finding too many basic and serious security holes in all the popular open source ASP.NET blog engines I looked at to make much progress) my boss has persuaded us to relocate to Redmond.  It was a tough call with the kids blissfully happy at a brilliant school and all of us loving living in Brighton but it’s a great opportunity at the “mother ship” and in this economy it’s hard to turn down a good offer….plus much closer to Hawaii for some radical kitesurfing!

We expect to be there by July.

    Hi Curph.

Welcome back to this side of the pond.

So, technically you are not moving to Seattle. You are moving to Redmond. Eastsiders aren’t the same as Seattleites. That is unless you’re planning to live in Seattle and then commute to Redmond over the bridge. If that’s the case, then you have my condolences. :-)

Yeah the commute may be tough but kids and schools and stuff. We are really not East Side people at all but the kids come first so we may have to suck up clinical and plastic for the little blighters educations ;-)

BTW Love the cartoons. If you ever fancied collaborating on a security series do let me know. I would love to bring back the security bullshit cartoons !

Here’s hoping that our weather gets better for you at least. Right now it’s raining sideways. Ah, Seattle in the spring.

PS: Thanks for the cartoon praise.

    Mark,

Aloha from OWASP Hawaii (and the OWASP Podcast Series HQ). Kite Surfing is insane! Back in the 90′s kite surfing instructors were allowed to have classes with 12 or more students. Once data started rolling in, insurance companies now only allow 2 students per instructor. Be careful out there! The stories I’ve heard about kite surfing….

    Aloha!!!

You’ll have a great time in Seattle. My partner is living in Queen Anne at the moment. She’s having a blast. Wish I could be there too.

  6. Hi Mark,

When you left the USA, you sort of had a venting in your blog. I take it all is forgiven? :-)

I am sort of missing the USA now that I’m back in Australia. It’s funny how you get “home sick” for a place that’s not really your home.

Good luck in Redmond, I’m sure you’ll do well.

    thanks,
    Andrew

Hiya Andrew, Can’t remember a venting (although I probably did over the politics and human rights). If the economy was strong I probably would be pushing back but reality is what it is. I dont want to move back, I do prefer Europe. Some things are great in the US and I do think its very much a case of whats important to you in life with good and bad in all places. The UK is expensive and full of litter but overall I find Europes culture, history and people better for the soul if that makes sense. I do know well have a good time in the States for a few more years (and who knows maybe even longer).

Andrew, it’s a little easier to swallow now that ‘you’ voted in a president who can see past the end of his nose. And can string a sentence together. :)

  8. The Wife Says:

Kite surfing + 40 year old = midlife crisis in my book.

I’ll have to up the life insurance.
