Tenets of Effective BPM
It’s no real secret what I am doing at Microsoft although I haven’t really blogged about it much. I do plan to start in the coming weeks with some long posts about platforms, information security BPM, applying business management techniques to the information security discipline, dashboards and business intelligence etc.
Before I do that and hot on the heels on the Medici Effect post this morning, these are five tenets of effective Business Process Management (BPM) programs. Note the non-software use of the term program.
1. Understand and Documenting the Process
Effect: Implement a Structured and Effective Information Security Program
2. Understand Metrics and Objectives
Effect: Understand Success Criteria and Track Effectiveness
3. Model and Automate Process
Effect: Improve Efficiency and Reduce Cost
4. Understand Operations and Implement Controls
Effect: Improve Efficiency and Reduce Cost
Effect: Fast and Accurate Compliance and Audit Data (Visibility)
5. Optimise and Improvement
Effect: Do More With Less
Effect: Reduce Cost
………Or Put Another Way
if you understand and document your process, your metrics and objectives, model and automate your process, understand and implement your process and optimise and process improvement
………You Will
Implement a structured and effective information security program, understand the success criteria and track effectiveness, improve efficiency and reduce cost, produce fast and accurate compliance and audit data and ultimately do more with less and reduce the cost of security.
