Dear Idiot, Your New UK Security Tools Law Sucks!
Dear Idiot (Tom Harris - Labour MP for Glasgow),
The world has gone mad and I am boarding the next commercial flight on Virgin Galactic in search of a world where numnuts and numties no longer rule.
It was my birthday last Thursday and very peasant it was too. I got back from a week in the States at 6am on orders of a family rule that everyone is around for everyones birthdays, no exceptions. I got some great presents like a track day at Silverstone in a Ferrari 360 from my wife, various other nice things from my kids and finally topped off the day with a take away curry, an M&S Raspberry Pavlova and a nice Malbec to wash it all down.
Well that was short lived cause there is now King Prawn Jalfrezzi and red wine mix all over my laptop and its all because of you. There I was enjoying the moment and cruising the BBC news late in the evening with a full belly when I discover that you have finally gotten your draconian ultra right wing views about the Internet into a law that will serve no part in advancing mankind. I watched you sneaky little bastards first try to pass the bill via the 10 min rule. We all know no one bothers to turn up to trivial things in parliament and some elephants skip under the fence this way while you are all too busy down the pub getting pissed or banging our secretaries. for the record it was the news story explaining how you withdrew your private members bill in favour of a government bill that finally had be vomiting. I suspect this happened around the same time your party were selling honours for cash or invading foreign countries on false premises?
As a result of your draconian views the UK Computer Misuse Act now has a provision for criminally charging authors of legitimate security tools that are used by cyber criminals. Mr Harris I have news for you. For years the world has looked in with amusement as America passed laws to stop people wearing certain clothes (you can’t wear jeans low on your waist in parts of Louisiana for instance and even crazier restrictions exist in Utah). In this fair Isle we are all guilty of sniggering at the frequent reports of American cases where drink drivers sue their dinner party hosts for not providing soft drinks and fatties sue burger chains because they “made them” get fat. Now you have turned us into the same laughing stock. For that I hold you accountable and view you as a national idiot. In the middle ages that you seem intent on taking us back too we used to have village idiots. I find it ironic that because of technology and industrial advances we are now able to create national idiots and you sir are such a beast.
Are you going to start imprisoning car manufacturers whose cars are used to speed on our motorways? Those manufacturers that sell cars in the UK know when they sell them that they go more than 70 MPH by the way. Perhaps you can;t count past 70 which may explain the disparity?
Are you going to start charging makers of kitchen knives that get used in the growing knife crime on our streets by street criminals?
Are you going to start charging the makers of guns who are used for murders by common thugs? I guess this particular one would be really ironic given the long history of your party approving arms deals with most of the worlds enemies.
My advice Mr. Harris, go back to reporting on stories as a hack (sic irony) and not creating them. At least you are less dangerous to others that way.
Kind regards,
A UK Voter.
PS: Given the fact you also voted against any sort of e-voting, would you mind if I refuse to pay the congestion charge or my numerous speeding tickets electronically on the grounds its note safe?

Preach it, brother Mark. This seems to have been kept very quiet. I only became aware of it via the US. Mine’s not as funny as yours though.

Heh, silly Limeys learning tricks from the land where you’re free to do anything except take responsibility for your own actions. I’m glad we successfully have exported our brand of representative government back to you, since you’re somehow responsible for it in the first place, what with the Stamp Act and all.
Misery loves company, let’s all go get a pint. =)

Thanks for the comment. It really is a worrying situation both for me personally having built and released some tools (although not in my name) and running a team in the UK that builds professional security tools!
