Notes from Helsinki

reindeer-at1 When you have a choice between Reindeer steak or Beef steak on your menu you know you are in Finland! I like Finland, it’s great. Really nice people and a lovely coastal environment. At this time of year for someone who still live in the South of France it is a little cold!

I have been here speaking at a private corporate security event and then at the OWASP Helsinki Chapter meeting tonight.

Corporate Security Events -  I really like doing them and it’s a real honor to be invited to these things (especially when there are only one or two outside speakers presenting). In the same breath I often walk away wishing I was able to spend a day or more with people and talk about the real core challenges. You can usually tell from the questions that there are interesting problems to help figure out. I will never claim to have all the answers and for me speaking is always a two way deal; I get to learn about peoples challenges and often I can share ideas that have worked in other places.  If there is some potential business along the way that’s great, if not that’s fine as well.

OWASP Helsinki - A well organized event, especially at such short notice so well done and thanks to Anntii and Mikko. A few people spoke to me afterwards about PCI and tools. I am really encouraged by the level of understanding about compliance really is and isn’t and what tools can and can’t do for people. A sophisticated bunch the Fins!  My only complaint, where was the beer?
