Strategy, Culture and Trendhunting

Trendhunter.com and theCoolHunter.net are two of my favorite non-security sites.

I viewed the Trendhunter slideshow “Unlocking Cool”  on Slideshare.net today. It’s excellent in many ways. I particularly smiled at this slide.

Oh come on, you try to make it sound so suave, but we all know you’re into the shiny geek bling and marketing bling. And if I see “Crisis = Opportunity” one more time, I’m getting violent. I hate that psychobabble junk. Make the hurting stop, Curphey, make it stop. It reminds me of two-bit psychologists trying to convince you that having all your friends think you’re crazy and want you committed is a good thing so you should embrace it fully. Not that I’m bitter or anything. =)

However, you’re right, it is good stuffs. The problem is that the people who need to hear this won’t understand it. That’s when you take it elsewhere and “eat their lunch”. This is also a big source of the startup bug, knowing that the company you’re working for is too big, too old, too stagnant, and you can do better, faster, cheaper, and more profitably.

Strategy is the breakfast of choice for PHBs everywhere.

“If you can’t operationalize and implement your security strategy, then you don’t have a security strategy.” You have scribbling on whiteboard and vague, valueless shapes in ppt.
