Blogonomics #4

Watch the number of subscribers (from RSS readers). My subscription base has doubled in the last few days while my traffic has remained reasonably constant. I don’t know what this means yet but I suspect I will get a steady increase in traffic in the next few days……

Note 1. I don’t know how they measure this but I suspect a user_agent field is passed from the RSS reader.

Note 2: I am happy to have a small readership at this stage. They are responsive and providing me with all the information I need to understand Blogonomics!

For Note 1, I’m guessing they’re just counting the number of hits for the RSS feed URL, as it’s a specific URL to access the feed (http://securitybuddha.com/feed). As for RSS user agents, it’d be interesting to see what RSS readers are the most popular out there.

Not being happy with having no time for coding these days, I’ve gone about the task of converting my boring online journal into a more interactive blog. The first thing I’ve done is create my own RSS generator; a complete hack, and an entertaining (for me) demonstration of what happens when new functionality is to be tacked onto code that hasn’t been touched in years.

Seeing how much havoc I could cause for unsuspecting RSS readers with a broken feed was also quite entertaining. This probably means I need to get out more.

Not at all my skater-punk friend in Seattle. Imagine if you could take down the security bloggers network with an IE / Firefox 0day (with a money back garuntee from the 0day writer in Russia).
